Yeah you have to watch them like a hawk! With our filters being as hard to get on and off as they are most of the shops don't change them. I put some pretty sneaky marks on my filter once to see if they would change it and sure enough they didn't! I just don't trust any of them. I have only been forced to stop at a few in my travels because I had no place to change it myself!
