Rotella...15w30 Dino or Synthetic??

I was wondering if there would be any advantage to to swithcing to Rotella Synthetic grade oil at this point. Been running Rotella 15w30 since the first oil change and have just over 100K now. Heard stories of this switch allowing leaks to show up.

Diesel mechanic thought it might happen if I witched to Amsoil Syn...something about different oil base makeup that would clean away deposits allowing oil to get by seals and other parts. Any thoughts or suggestions????

To my knowledge (and my info may be old), Rotella Synthetic is NOT a true synthetic it is a group 3 syn.

If you want a true group IV synthetic, look at Royal Purple, Red Line, Mobile 1, Exxon XD-3 0W40, or Amsoil. True group IV synthetics do not have petroleum products in them, they are synthesized in a lab and thats why the cost so much more.

Well I originally wanted to go with Amsoil and do the whole by-pass filter and everything. I was told(or maybe read) that this change would cause leaking to occur. Not sure if it was due to different viscosity or just chemical makeup, or general properties????? I'm currently fine with what I'm using now, all is good. Just thought if synthetic was better for the motor, why not switch??? However, I don't want to damage or cause problems with what I have in my search for "better".

I used Delo 15-40 for 162k miles and had no leaks. I switched to Amsoil and still have no leaks. I doubt at 100k that you have developed any leaks. That is if you've taken care of it. I say go for it. You'll see and hear a difference.

i have the amsoil bypass with the special eao filters and have changed my oil brand 3 times before then. no leaks at all, i am also a amsoil dealer pm me if you want to do the switch and the bypass. i love mine dont change the oil for like 15,000 and sent in the oil analysis and they said it was still good. and they also have a pre primer now that pre primes the engine so there is no start up damage on the bearings and what not.

I've pretty much babied her up to this point. Religious regular maintenance!!! The only leak to date has been the vacuum pump seal. Doesn't drip on the ground but has made a mess of the driver's side of the motor over the past two months. I really need to get around to changing out the o-ring.
