radiator resivor

hello,
just returned from a 3000 mile trip pulling a 4,500 trailer throught the mountains and deserts of the west. i ran 60 mph with outside temps between 90 - 100 degrees, air condition on most of the way. about 2300 miles into the trip i noticed my coolant resivor bottle was almost empty so i filled it with prestone and water. my question, is this normal to be low after running hard in high temps? prior to leaving i had a 30k service done at the dealers and the coolant service was part of the service. truck is a 2001 HO with 4.10 gears and 6 speed.

thanks,
david h

I just did the service on my truck and put the reservoir to the full mark and filled the radiator up to the top. Drove around for a few days and let the coolant circulate, needless to say, the reservoir was down to the "add" line so I filled it back up.

I pull heavy loads a lot and I live in 100 degree temps as a average. I usually run about 70 mph and have never lost or used any coolant. My guess is that the place that you took your truck to be serviced didn’t fill up the radiator all the way but, you might want to look at you hoses close and make sure you don’t have a small leak somewhere.

I don't think you have a leak or anything. Just probably didn't get enough coolant put back in. Sounds exactly like mine after the service. I flushed the entire system out with a hose for quite some time, drained all the water and refilled with about 17 quarts. After driving around, added about another quart or two... I think your fine if you've added some again already.
