I have heard people say that flushing the PS fluid has helped their PS in a big way. Also, Lucas PS fluid additive (they have a couple of variations), helps sometimes.

My buddy took his SUV to a service shop (decent shop he's used for a couple years) for a PS problem. They diagnosed the problem as a clog in his steering rack and recommended they replace the pump, lines, and rack. They also said they could try to flush the system but they couldn’t provide any guarantee it would work and wouldn’t be able to give him a full refund/credit on the work if he then decided to replace all the parts.

Needless to say, he opted for the flush and 20,000 miles later, it’s working perfect. Try and give it a good flush and see how it goes. His rack was plugged so bad it broke one of the bolts when he turned the wheel.

These pumps are rather easy to replace. Dont even have to take the belt of as they are gear driven. Just make sure you bleed it good before you take it out for a spin because it also provides boost for your brakes. Bought mine at napa for 90 bucks.

That's exactly what I was going to say, be sure it's bled well before taking off in traffic
