Oil type

Hi,
I'm new to diesels and am looking to change the oil. I've heard about Rotella, Delo, etc. but nothing about Mobil 1, Rotella T, or Amsoil synthetics. I know the synthetics are more expense but are they worth it and is one better than the other?

Thanks for indulging me.

Alan

Everyone has pretty much there own opinions. Use a good 15/40 diesel oil and change regularly. I use a 50/50 blend of synthetic 0/40 and regular 15/40 but I don't extend the change interval. I personally think synthetics are good but if you are going to go longer between oil changes I would rather use regular oil with regular oil changes. I'm sure you will get many opinions on what is best.

I've used Rotella T and change it every 3 - 5K. for a long time on all the diesels that I've had with no problems. Just stay away from the Fram filters

CTD gets that and stratpores. I change the fuel filter every oil change.

I heard from a reliable source that Amsoil is owned by ford.....

Have been using Amsoil 15-40 marine for 412,000 km on the first truck 1991 W250 and 194,000 km on 2001 W2500- oil change interval 25,000 km No problems, good oil analysis. Run light, tow heavy and lots of cold weather high idle time. Good cold starts and oil pressre at -20F. You be the judge. PK

I used AMSOIL Engine oil once.
Went back to using Valvoline Premium Blue afterwards because of the expen$e.

In my opinion AMSOIL IS good oil.

Just not THAT good.
