Question 2 Maintanence questions

I'm planning on doing a drain and refill of my T-case as part of regular maintanence. I know to use ATF+4, but don't know how much it holds.

I did a search, and couldn't find it. Can anyone help me out by telling me how much it holds?

Also, any special proceedure to bleed the brakes? I've heard on some ABS equipped vehicles, you can't just get a buddy to pump the fluid out with the pedal as you crack the bleeders due to the servos or something. Is this true for our Dodges?

I'm also curious about the t-case but I did change my brake fluid last year. I was trying to be fancy and bought a mighty vac but couldn't do anything with it except make a huge mess. I finally resorted to the old fashioned "honey you keep the fluid filled, boy you pump the brake pedal and I'll crack the line" method and it worked fine. It was a little slow but it got the job done.

Tranfer case hold between 3 & 4 qts... depending on whether you have the '241DL' case or the '241DH' transfer case.
You can tell the difference by reading the round Aluminum plate on the backside...or crawl under the drivers side. If there is a plate there for the PTO...you have the bigger case...the DH. There is a third letter there also, but I can't remember it...and it's not important.

Sorry Mike...Amsoil is wrong ...at least on the 241! I have changed mine and several others and the Dodge Service Manual is correct. (just looked it up).

"241 - - 2.18L (4.61 pts)".... or 2.3 Qts
"241HD - 3.08L (6.51 pts)".... or 3.25 Qts

Mine has the 241HD. It has 2 plugs on the back of the case. Just fill with atf+4 till fluid seeps out upper hole with truck level. That way you can check your level anytime, not just on a fluid change.

Good to know. I guess I could have looked it up in my service manual.

I serviced the transfer case yesterday. Did a mini exxon valdez, but got it done. I bought 3 one liter bottles, and it took all but 200 mL. For you Americans, that means 3 quarts almost exactly before it ran out the fill hole - in case anyone else needs that question answered.

All I have left to change out is the brake fluid and the front diff, and all the juice is new in the truck.

Lots of good info here, as well as in other areas of the site.
