NV5600 fill plug size

My new truck has only 1800 miles on it. I did my first oil change, greased the only 3 zerks I could find, flushed the fuel filter and checked the axles. My rear axle was alomost a full quart low on gear oil. I used Valvoline 80w-90 and added about 2 ounces of Trans-X, front axle was fine.

Question: What size is the allen plug in the NV5600 6 speed? Looks like maybe 17mm....

I have the famous 3rd gear grind and I am thinking that maybe it is low on fluid as well.

Thanks,
Tim

You might wanna think about changing the fluid in it to some of that high dollar manual tranny fluid that's like $8 a quart... might fix it... might not.. but you'll know you're doing your best to stop it. :) I highly recommend Redline MTL.

Re:NV5600 fill plug size

Ya, I swapped in the Redline MTL at 5000 miles -- third gear grind disappeared. The NV5600 plug on the 2002 is 17mm. Do yourself a favor -- open up the PTO plate on the driver's side and take out the flat magnet on the bottom of the tranny. Clean it off and replace it, then mount the plate with new gasket sealant. The magnet is effective, and there'll be a lot of break-in metal there.

GP

What's the easiest way to drain the NV5600? Is the redline fluid a better solution than factory mopar fluid? What about the warranty? ???
