No Brakes

Hi I have a 2001 quad cab short bed with the sway bar and extra leafs. I tow a trailer and bobcat that weight is about 10,000 lbs. 4 times a month. No trailer brakes on trailer. 52,000 miles already changed front pads. Rear has drum brakes. My truck can't stop the trailer on long down hills. I am looking at a front rotor and brake upgrade and a read disc conversion. I don't want to install a exhaust brake. Any ideas. Thank you

A 10,000 lb trailer, and no trailer brakes, You ARE going to hurt somebody. Don't know what state your in but your probably illegal.

I know I need brakes on the trailer. It has brakes but all the lines are rotten the previous owner of the trailer told me I don't need to repair if I don't haul everyday. Also most of the big boat trailers around here don't have brakes. I used to own a 03 dodge 2500 the brakes was so much better. I will repair the brakes but I still want to upgrade my truck brakes. Any suggestions. Thanks

I'm sure the judge will get a kick out of that statement in court after you rear-end someone with an overloaded trailer with defective brakes.

A couple of hundred bucks spent repairing that trailer, will save you from spending a couple of million $$$ in a lawsuit.

Ok I got the picture I am going to fix the trailer brakes. But my truck brakes still suck. Without anything behind. Compairing to my 03 2500. that I used to own. What is the best route over sized rotors, rear disc brake conversion??
Thank You

Manually adjusting the rear shoes will make a whale of a difference in the way it stops.
The rear "Self-Adjusters" are pretty much useless.
I have front disc and rear drums on my '99 dually, and it stops better and quicker than most cars I've driven.

Search for the GM 1-ton brake cylinders for the drums, should help a bit. Why no exhaust brake?
