I never thought I would read those codes & hear the owner of the truck say COOL! I would get a Industrial Injection VP44, they are reliable & come with a warranty to back them up.

Ahhh, I bought the truck for 10K, and it's in pretty good shape otherwise. I've gotten all the other little bugs worked out for under $200, so another grand or so will not kill me for a good working puller. I'll pick up a fuel pressure guage tomorrow & see what I have, might need both pumps. I still think it's very very odd how its acting, especially the cold performance. Any way to make sure the VP is dead?

OK,

At idle, I get 8psi - 2200rpm I get 3-4, when I hit, as it ramps up the needle will hit 0 for a second. Sounds like a lift & a vp44 to me, opinions?

It sounds like the engine is starving for fuel, I would change JUST the LP and clean/check the IAT sensor and add more fuel conditioner. Is the fuel fresh/new, could it be summer diesel.

Cool! I cleaned the IAT, it was gross, but I got her!
No change in performance, I'm pretty sure I'm in need of a LP & VP.

I would also like to add the light kit, any ideas who has the best deal on all 3?

Well, even though there are some optomistic people here, combine the symptoms with the codes and you get a bad diagnosis. It would be beneficial to check all the other possibilities available, at least it can't hurt! but there seems enough evidence that at the very least your lp is finished. Start there but understand that your vp44 can leave you stranded at any time. Usually at the worst time. It's your call but if it was mine, and I already factored in the price of new pumps I would do it now before you add a pricey tow bill to your total! Good luck.

At least you have some warning that your lift pump is going bad from your low fuel pressure readings. Mine went out with out warning and left me on the side of the road in 100 degrees and took my vp with it.

Anyone ever put some start up lube in these pumps when installing them?
Any other tips or tricks?
Any special deals out on the net?
Anyone upgraded and have a HO VP44 sitting around? (lol)

Does anyone have a opinion on doing the injectors now too? I am trying to keep the $ down on the project, and stock is plenty of power for me, I just don't want the stock injectors to fail later and wish I did them now. Looks like a additional $300 would get the injectors

If your injectors are working ok. I wouldn't worry about them now. They are pretty easy to swap. It won't be anymore difficult to do them later than to do them now. $1200 bucks is a pretty good deal for both pumps. It cost me about $1600 to do mine.

For install just make sure you lube the oring on the new pump with some oil(make sure you loc-tite the support bracket bolts) and when you go to start the truck bump the starter (but dont crank the engine over) to run the lift pump a few times. The pump will run for 30 seconds each time. Make sure you have a couple injection lines cracked loose before you start it(I did 1 and 3) then crank it over and it should start pretty quick but will probably run pretty rough for a minute till all the air clears from the other injection lines.

OK;

1. I ordered the LP today, figured I'd start with that.

2. I cant find the MAP sensor at autozone or advance, anyone know who carries it?

3. As allways, THANKS! With your help another healthy Dodge Cummins will rumble down the streets again!
