Well guys I just found a hell of a deal on a 01 2500 with the solid 24 valve. I paid $2400 for it and the guy said that the injector pump is all that's wrong with it.
What do y'all recommend taking it to a shop and let them do it or change it myself?

Nah, just watch the video and do it in order. Make sure you understand the right key has to be used, most pumps come with the right key and it has an arrow so you don't install it backwards.
Worst part is when you are pulling the gear, when it breaks loose you will swear you broke something.
Sounds like a 12 gauge going off.

Changing the VP is not difficult but will require specific tools and take about 5-6 hours because of all the stuff you'll have to get out of the way. All you should need is a couple different size torque wrenches, some crows feet, an assortment of open wrenches, and a gear puller. Find as many instructions as you can over the internet as some versions will skip steps and leave you wondering what to do. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know is when the VP is removed AND installed, ABSOLUTELY make sure the VP shaft key is pointing upwards (12 o'clock). This is to lessen the chances of the key falling out of the cog or getting knocked out of the cog and dropping into the timing gears. If that happens you will have hours on your hands getting it out. Lastly, when installing the VP, take your time and use a mirror to see from the inside of the timing gear down the gear hole looking at the VP shaft. You want to be as sure as you can that the VP key is sitting perfectly positioned centered in the cog. If its not then when you cinch down the timing gear to 125 lbs, you'll smash the key off to one side and the VP will be out of time. The only fix is a new key or sending the VP back to be re-calibrated. Some guys have quickly painted the key bright orange so its easier to see with the mirror. Not necessary but can help. Dont let me scare you as this isn't hard but JUST TAKING YOUR TIME AND WATCHING WHAT YOU'RE DOING will alleviate any issues.
I have been cramming as much information as I can and everyone has said the same. I will defiantly have to keep a firm eye on that.
Thank you for the help. I am going to start on it this weekend I will keep y'all updated.
