Need basic information

Just bought a 2000 quad cab, 6sd, 4x4. It's my first Cummins so I don't have much information to work with. What are the hp and torque ratings for this truck and how do I find out how it was equiped when it was originally bought from the dealer? Thanks.

Since you have the 6spd tranny, you have a HO Cummins, 245hp 505 tq. You can look in your glove box, should be a sticker there which will tell you basic information about your truck, such as paint codes, tranny, transfer case, and gear ratio. Anything else you will have to take your VIN to the dealer get an option sheet from them. Enjoy the truck, and welcome to the site. Make sure you fill out your signature line with your truck info so anytime you ask questions about your truck, we know what you have. Check out the 24 Valve FAQ section, it will answer some of your questions.

The HO didn't come out till the 01 model. THe NV5600 was avalliable (with a smaller input shaft) from 98 (maybe 99) on.

Go to a local dealer and they can give you a "build sheet" from your VIN, it will tell you everything your truck left the factory with. They usually won't charge for one.

You need a fuel pressure gauge, do a search on lift pumps, and read for hours.

displacedtexan is right!

You NEED a set of GAUGES! (Fuel Pressure, Pyrometer, and Boost)... If your fuel pressure slides under 10 PSI you might be doing harm to your injection pump (VP44) which can be expensive to replace ($1,200 roughly)...

The little voice in the back of my head was telling me after I posted the HO wasn't out yet........ . Since the real experts have spoken, you have standard output (SO) which is 235hp / 460 tq. Get gauges, they are worth the investment. The 6spd came out in the '99 models in limited numbers, then received a heavier clutch and input shaft in '01.
