mystrey oil loss

I have a reman engine with 17k miles on it... at 4600 miles on a 5000 oil change I noticed it was a quart low (basically my last fill up before the oil change) I went on and added a quart. At oil change, I drained 1 gallon and 3/4 out... no oil leaks, no oil in radiator, not unexpected soot on inside of tail pipe but no obvious smoking while running. I didn't check the oil before draining because I had just checked it 500ish miles before and added the quart..

Where do I start looking for the oil to be going?
As a side note, the idiots that installed my engine thought it was smart to break it in on 100% synthetic oil... found out and changed it about 2k into the break in...

I drove it to work yesterday (first trip after oil change) and there was no apparent loss on a 45 mile drive, I have not checked it since I got back home on what would have been a 90 mile round trip.

HELP!!! I don't want to do any more damage .

They slobber out a little at the timing cover and burn a little...

a quart every 5k is ok..... 5ish quarts in 400 miles is a bit excessive and I don't know where it went... only that it wasn't there when drained.

Sounds like you are burning it....oil usually leaves a good trail of tears when escaping in liquid form......

My truck has always had a bluish tint when cold idling....
