the ve pump was new, injector lines as was some parts but the timing cover and housing, gear lines were from a 1992 truck.

the p-pump is a p7100 pump of a 1994-1998 12v cummins its like a mini motor

What makes this conversion any less problematic than a p-pump conversion? I thought the p-pump was considered "better" than the ve, so I'm just curious why you chose the ve over the p.

I thought about doing a p-pump conversion a few years ago and could have bought a complete setup for around $1800.

with the ve pump you wont get the insane numbers you can with a ppump, but i like the variable timing of the ve pump which makes it more streetable(and better mpg), also having it start really fast is awesome. I also didn't care to do the p-pump because i don't tow huge trailers and i don't need 1000hp. i also had a cost in mind, which is if the ve ever failed a new on is less than $600, and the shutdown solenoid is only $10, i also just like that you can rotate the fuel pin for more power. I also like that its about the same size as the vp44 so there's no mods to fit, like with the ppump you need a spacer for the air horn and for the ecm. with all the little odds and ends it would have been over 2500 for me to do a ppump conversion, and not to mention beefing up the trans for the extra power(though i might have to do that any way lol).

OK. I've got admit... I don't that much about either the ve or the p other than the ve is a rotary pump and the p is an in-line pump. I gather from what you're saying that the p-pump has a fixed timing regardless of RPM or load, and the ve pump varies the timing much like a distributor on a gas engine.

The 215hp p-pump has an upper helix on the plunger, so it will vary (retard) timing as rack travel increases. Fixed timing really isn't that bad.

If you decide to go either route, its probably cheaper to go by a 12v with the desired injection system and rob it to put on the 24v. Or swap in the entire engine. My p-pump swap cost me around $4k (the dollar wasn't as strong then). I bought a running 12v for $1300 later that year. I could have bought the lines for $500, and sold the rest of the 12v for a good bit more than that. Or swap in the $1300 engine and sell the 24v for that or more.
