MPG with 4:10's ???

Can someone please tell me what type of mileage can be sxcpected from
a stock 2001 24v HO 6speed with 4:10's and 265/75/r16? I am looking at one from a dealership and they can't give me a hard range.

You can email me if you like at cvc95@comcast.net.

I really need some info, I am suppose to give them my decision Monday.

Thanks for reply..
I am looking at buying one and need to make a decision Monday.
I don't need 4:10's but the truck is real a real nice stock truck.
01 HO 6speed Manual 265/75R 16's
Do you have a manual or auto?
What speed and rpms are you running to get that mileage?
Are your tires extra wide or more like stock
How about city?

Are you heavy or light footed? Where do you keep your RPM's?

Are you looking at a 2500 or a 3500? I think you can figure about 2 miles per gallon less with a 3500 vs a 2500.

My truck (see Sig) is pretty much what your looking at, same size tires. In town I get 16-18 mpg. On the highway my best is 21.25mpg. All hand calculated and filled to within 3" of top of filler neck. I would say that for the most part I am light footed most of the time. On the highway I generally run the posted speed plus 3-5. Not sure of the rpm, but 65 is probably around 2200.

Do you think you mods have anything to do with it?

Depends I guess. Don't really hot rod it much since its a stock motor and really won't do much anyway but I get on it a little from time to time. Just bought an edge ez so hopefully that'll help the mileage a little if I can control myself. Haven't put it on yet waiting on time to install the trans temp gauge (boost & pyro already installed). Not sure on rpm I can't remember off the top of my head. 55 seems to be the sweet spot for me anyway. Honestly I would rather have 3.55s but I liked this truck when I looked at it and it had 4 wheels disc brakes and was the color I wanted so I bought it anyway.

The mods have helped. Stock I got 16-17 in-town on summer fuel. That was really light footed. Never took it on a highway trip when it was stock. Not sure of any mileage increase with just the exhaust, but it did allow the turbo spool up quicker. With just injectors and exhaust I got 20.3 on the highway. What I posted above is on winter fuel. Honestly I don't think I can do much better even with the summer fuel. Like you I did not need the 4.10's , but the truck was to good to pass up.
Also from a stoplight, second goes pretty quick, but then at 40-45 you can be in 6th. Definitely nice for passing, just step on the accelerator.

What is the difference between summer and winter fuel?

I have 275/70R18's on my truck with 3.54's I turn 2000 at 80 on the road.

I average high 19's babyin the crap out of it back and forth to work, about 50/50 city/highway. Got 22 out of it empty gon to Vegas and back empty. Towed 6K to Ouray CO and back last summer, averaged high 15's. All hand calculated.

Now I have a camper and am considering going to 4.10's for a little extra leverage for pulling grades, a few more RPM will equal more boost and less EGT's. When towing I don't even get into OD until 55 or it seems as if it's lugging and it is below 1500 RPM.

I have a couple o friends with stock 3rd gen trucks that have stock tires (265/70R17) with 3.73 and they run right with me on the hills, i do get a little bit better mileage then them but I had no camper, (1 does the other doesn't) but I attributed that to the fact that their trucks have less than 50K miles and are loosened up yet....

I go here when I have tire size/speed/RPM questions;

I bought the truck with 105000 mi & now have 142000. I log every fill up & spreadsheet it. Cumulative MPG is 16 (exact). That included all driving - winter/summer fuel, highway at 75+ mph, city & country roads. Cruising under 60 is a sweet spot but I don't continually drive for mileage. I also don't keep my foot in it. The truck isn't cheap as you'll need gauges, front end work etc - approx 2K in the parts in my sig. Add larger injector & tuner & you're good. I like the truck AND think Dodge built a 50,000 mi truck around a 500,000 mi engine.

I am no expert when it comes to diesel fuel. As I understand it the flash point is lower in the winter. This translates into less BTU's available, which means less mpg. Also the gel point is lower. These two could be related? Normally in the summer time you will get better fuel mileage.
I checked today and my tach reads 2125 at 65mph in 6th gear.
