Milege ?'s

Hey guys,
I just bought a 01' Quad cab long bed, 4x4. I hauled a small toy hauler trailer down to southern California with a friend of mine last week and we got 7 miles to the gallon. Checked the milege manualy and the computer was nuts on. Changed the fuel filter half way and no difference, changed the air filter and no difference. The trailer probably weighs just under 9000 lbs. can this be normal? I unloaded Sunday night and drove another 1000 miles yesterday and was doing 85 mph and the truck was getting 15+ mpg?? Can that weight difference make the milege drop that much? If this is normal, will doing some mods. to the motor, exaust, computer, ect. make the milege any better? I just sold my 93' 12v and it would get 15 mpg pulling this same trailer. I am a litttle disapointed!

How fast were you going?

If you were doing 85 MPH with a 9000 lb trailer, its probably pretty close to right. If you were 60-70, I would say that is a little low

I get 13-15 MPG towing a 5000 lb trailer, at high elevations with lots of passes and up and down terrain.

I have 4", turbo back straight pipe, AFE stage 1 air intake, VanAaken 60 hp module and of course, gauges. EGTs are no problem at all. Only 1050 or so up passes(6-8k) going 70-80 MPH.

I never towed anything stock though. If I towed 9000 lbs, I would expect around 10 or so I guess.
