Lost power this morning!
So I start the truck to let it warm up. leave the house, start up a little grade and the truck feels real sluggish. no power what so ever. fuel pressure at 13psi. boost guage barely movin. Anyone have any thoughts to the problem? I changed the fuel filter, air filter is good, turbo shaft spins free, no play. I'm at a loss
Update, I take my truck to a buddy's garage, hooks the scanner to it, shows a code for the mapp sensor. no other codes. he seems to think its the turbo--so I come home take the turbo off, everything looks good, all vanes look great, spins free, no play what so ever. My question is can a mapp sensor keep the motor from building boost?? Best way to describe driving the truck is it feels like a gasser with a plugged catalytic converter. any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Cummins tries to protect the engine if the MAP sensor shows an out-of-range signal. This will put the engine into "limp" mode and reduce power. If the code detected was P0234, turbo boost limit exceeded or code P0237, MAP sensor voltage too low, or P0238, MAP sensor voltage too high, you are in limp mode. These codes will turn on the check engine light also. You did not say what code was scanned or if the check engine light was on so your guess is as good as mine.
One common problem with the MAP is the connector will often get bad. Disconnecting, cleaning and reconnecting can fix it.
