loss of power / have codes

Three weeks ago, I was towing my 24 foot race car trailer back from the indy show, all the way home it ran fine untill i got off the E way, it lost power , felt like it was bogging. unhooked the trailer, turned off the truck and it ran like aways untill today. Under WOT ( no trailer ) it will nose down/bog, boost goes from 28 psi to 5 psi , no lights on, but i check the codes and found
P 1693 & P 0216

3 years ago I installed a new lift pump & inj pump ( about 30K ) since repair. I replace the fuel filter 3 times a year.

Can someone tell me what the codes mean ? and ideas ?
Thanks John

I'm afraid the 0216 is the VP44 death code. I don't think too many folks with this code have gotton away without changing it.

With the dropping fuel pressure, I would check the fp first.

Funny how you put that, but right to the point. I was hoping to get more than 30k out of the VP44 pump.

If I may, I have a follow up question, Is the stock lift pump what kills the VP44 ? having a chip & 30 lbs of boost kill it sooner ? the pump was new from cummins. Is there a fix all to make sure I dont replace the VP44 evey 30K ?

Thanks for the reply, John

I wish I could answer you questions with any certainity. There are a lot of opinions on what causes the VP to fail. Some fail quickly, and others last about 200 K. I think that the most popular opinion for failure is a weak fuel pump not getting enough fuel through to cool the VP. Also, a plugged fuel filter will starve the VP. On the other hand, some folks with aftermarket pumps and good pressure and clean filters have had failures too.

There is a lot to read on here about VP44 failures. If you have time, do a search and you will find a lot of opinions.

pulled codes and came up with the following:

P1682 -
Manufacturer controll ????

P0122 -
TPS/ Pedel position sensor

P1693-
Manufacturer controll ( pointless code from what i've heard)

P0234 -
engine overboost condition.

Could the Throttle position sensor cause all the smoke??
