Lockup-Problem or Not.

I have had my 1st diesel for 2 months now and I love it. I don't ever see myself owning another gasser.
I do however have a couple of questions for yall.
1.) My transmission (auto) shifts great, the only problem--when it shifts into overdrive, it immediately goes into lockup. Maybe a half of a second delay (if that). Is this normal?
2.) Whats up with the oil pressure? It takes the gauge 4 or 5 seconds to show any pressure. Is the engine actually starving for this long????

Thanks in advance for any responses.

1) the lock-up sounds normal
2) yes, when u first start your truck it takes a few seconds before it shoots up ( wait till it's cold ..scared me a few times but it always comes up )...i dont believe the engine is starving, their is alot of oil to deal with in our engines and maybe the gauge is to blame to a degree.

Mine works the same way and I have had no problems. I also worried since it takes so long for the oil gauge to register, but since most of these engines are averaging hundreds of thousands of miles before a rebuild is necessary, I quit worrying.

Re:Lockup-Problem or Not.

Well the Cummins is built with some reason in mind of teh engineers. First of all it does do this trick with showing oil pressure a bit late to increase longevity. Nobody will want to rev the engine when there is no oil pressure. So on good engines (like the Cummins) oil pressure is measured somewhere late in the oil circle, so you'll see th oil pressure a tad later and any drop immediately.
On most gassers the sensor is right after teh oil pump and doesn't tell you anything about the lubrication of moving parts, just that the pump is getting oil.

Just my 2c

alpine is correct, i brought this issue to cummins west one day and they said the pressure sender is at the end of the line and oil is being routed through the engine that whole time.

Re:Lockup-Problem or Not.

Well thats a relief. I guess I am used to my old "Chevy". At that long of a delay, the "gasser" would have already "air conditioned" its oil pan.
Thanks again.
