Lock N Stick for "53" engine block repair
http://www.locknstitch.com/cummins_5_9_block.htm Found this while browsing a welding forum Perhaps it could be made a Sticky ?
general consensus is its a temp fix and it will leak again, many many posts on this subject.
there are posts from welding to bolting a plate over it, no one to my knowledge has posted thhat their repair has lasted any amount of time.... who knows maybe some one will post if they have something that lasts any amount of time/use

I've seen it but never used it or needed to. Think I've read the thread about it years ago.
Guess the only real repair is to weld it and have it welded properly, preheat, post heat etc., but if the block is already a turd from the factory then after polishing, cleaning and shining it will still be a turd. Ultimate fix would be block replacement and an new mailbox post out of the old 53 block.
I think many have said the block is flawed in the casting or something, welding it, stitching it will only create more stresses elsewhere in the bad block. From what I've read the block was to thin? Not sure if that is correct but like I said, if it's weak and prone to cracking from the factory then any repair will just be a temporary fix until it cracks in a new spot. Cast is a curious creature.

just out of curiosity does anyone have an idea of what they charge to do the fix? even a ballpark figure? i dont need it but im going to look at a 2000 ram 2500 and the trans has been rebuilt and he has all the paperwork for it and when it was done but he has only put injectors, an intake horn, new injection pump and some other little stuff like brakes water pump wheel bearings etc but just in case when i climb under the truck and try to see if its a 53 or i ask him either way im still gonna check with my own eyes haha but im just asking in case i need an emergency fix from this thats why im asking if anyone knows a estimated price for the fix? thanks in advance i know this is older but figured its worth a shot to ask... ive owned a few dodge diesels but they were all 3rd gens so this 53 block is sorta new to me .. thanks
