Little help fellas, wacked out carrier barring, or odd trany problem?

Hi guys, cheers.
Seems odd, after offloading a heavy skidster, noticed a rotational, rubbing sound from under, and center of truck, looked into it, and seems like the noise was/is coming from the pivot barring, or carrier barring, looked like it had shifted forward towards the tranny about 1/2 inch, easily, slipped it back into place, (should I be able to do that?) and tested it, ie, ( wheels up and in drive), no noise, nothing, so, carry on, 2 weeks later, feels like I have a flat, whomp, whomp, whomp,, but gut says something else, slip under her belly, take a look, sure enough, slipped forward a solid inch, or more, can see some of the outer ring of what I think is the pressed on barring, also tore throu (only) the first raised coil on the rear rubber, dust booty, belonging to the rear drivline, so what the heck is going on, is the barring toast, or headed that way? Guy at, "Drive line Services of Boise) says he seen that once before on a dodge, went throu 3 barrings for the guy, still could not figure out how or why that first driveline shaft wanted to reposition it's self towards the tranny. ended up installing a plastic home made spacer shim into the tail section of the tranny to get it to stop, So any better ideas than that, who would you call?
Any input would be great since the Blue Whale is now stranded, in Marssing.
Thanks guys.
Pappy.

Sounds like it could be the carrier bearing or a u-joint. I'd also check the rear tranny mount while you're under it.

Thanks for the imput, may have some additional, non helpful info.
I pulled the hanger barring, dropped the front shaft, the barring itself seems fine, rotates w/out drag, no binding, snags etc etc. I am presuming the rubber that helps to hold it is bad, have a guy lined up to replace w/ OEM, by the by watch that, I guess there are at least 3 barrings that will fit these shafts and they MAY all look like they will do the job, and maybe they would, for a while, I'm also going to go ahead and put in place some catch guards in case I ever lose a drive line or U-Joint, so to sum up, could not really find anything wrong, this thing lends it's self to non explanatory failure, maybe, I was able to re-install everything shove the barring back into the rubber boot and have been driving (tensely) I feel lucky, I caught it when I did.
Thanks fellas, Cheers.
