Limited Slip Differential Additive?

I changed my rear differential oil this summer and have noticed a little shutter in a tight turn to the right depending on the amount of throttle. I searched the site and came up with; "its normal" to I need to add a MOPAR limited slip additive. I don't remember the weight of the oil I added or if it was for a limited slip. Will this damage the differential?

Any suggestions from the crew?

I had to add some limited slip additive to mine from the factory, it was "catching" a bit too much in my opinion. As far as harming the diff, the clutches might wear a bit faster without the additive.

When I added my Mag-Hytec front and rear covers last year, I used some modifier I found at Autozone. Not my first choice, but by the time I realized I forgot it, nothing else was open. I don't remember the exact amounts, but I do remember that I used a little more than the required amount. I have had no problems since. I have heard that if you do not use enough, it can cause problems.

I have experienced this before.
I had the fluid changed by my local dealer on my 2000 3/4 ton when it had 50,000 miles. Just as a preventative measure. They replaced the fluid with regular gear lube and added 1 bottle (i think it is 6 oz) of the Mopar additive($110). I had absolutely no problems with chattering before but as soon as I put a hour of interstate driving on the vehicle the rear end started to chatter when I made a turn at a intersection. I called the dealer and they said that the additive needed to work in???
Anyway the following weekend I had my horse trailer hooked up and was heading to Missouri. Pulled off the interstate and the chatter was terrible.
I pulled into a Dodge dealer in Iowa City on a Saturday and they stayed open to help me out.
I told them what was going on and the mechanic knew exactly what had happened.
He said there was a service bulletan issued that 2 bottles are needed in the Dana 70 and I think the Dana 80. He also recommended the synthetic gear lube since I was pulling a trailer. So he changed out the fluid and added two bottles and $130 later I was on the road with no problems.
I know this was a little long winded, but I think this might help.

Mike

I added the Mopar modifier ($7.00 for 4 ozs) and she is working much better even after only a day and 150 miles. Not near as much shuttering. If it keeps shuttering after a month I'll add another 1/2 bottle.

Thanks guys! (singing the praises of this web site)
