Lift pump or pusher pump dead?
Lift pump or pusher pump dead?
I have a pusher pump attached just in front of the tank. When I start my truck I get 20lbs. However, as soon as I put it in gear and start to drive, the pressure will go down to about 10-12. When I step on it, it will go to 4-6lbs. I used to stay around 14lbs WOT. Both pumps seem to be making noise. I notice that the pusher pump does not stay on as long as it used to when you first start up cold.
I would belive it would be the lift pump, but if the lp dies, would that cause the pusher to not be able to do its' job?
Also, where is the best place to purchase a replacement pump? Does cummins sell this or is it a dealer only part.
This is the first LP I have had to replace 70k miles.

Buy it from Cummins for about 138 bucks. It is 400 from Dodge. It is hard to say about your pusher without knowing more about it. That 20 lbs at start you used to get is the max you need. You definetly have something going on though if your pressures have dropped way down. Probably lift pump. Just unbolt the fuel filter housing & lay it out of the way & you can get right to the LP & change it yourself. Nothing to it.
