The lift pump on my 02 went TU on me again after 30K on the 1st replacement. The shop doing the work could not find the problem until I had them check the pre heater where they found pices of the lift pump. Anyway they told me that Dodge is no longer selling lift pumps. Instead they are selling an in-tank pump. Cost of the is over $800 just in parts. The labor would involve dropping the tank so i would imagine the total cost would be over 1K. They said that if they do the work and the customer insists on a lift pump they will not warrenty the work. You can still get the lift pump from Cummins. Thought everyone should know.

 

Get it from Cummins! It's About $75.00.

Cummins have lift pumps for $75.00? What is the part number I want to carry a spare at that price.

 

Part # 4090046. I bought from Central Power in KC. Cost $64.90, plus $10.24 freight and a little over $5 tax, total 80.43!

Oh, you also get the sending unit for hooking up your warning light for low pressure.

 

Anyone else have problems with sending unit that comes with cummins lift pump? It is supposed to activate at about 3.5 lbs, I installed one and I could not accelerate without the light coming on. I installed a 7 lb unit that i found and it works great, just flickers a little during hard hill climbing or hard accelaration.

 

come on you guys lets tell it like it is....... this stuffs been floatin' around for a long time how DC engineers screwed up the fuel supply system and what to do about it.

The first thing you need to do is forget about the intank solution. I can't believe they are still pushin' that one. You need to move the Lift pump near the tank off the engine shaking heat like the pump is designed. Designed to push fuel not suck fuel. Next you need a fuel pressure guage. It's really important. Then you need to talk to Vulcan performance to set you up right. Not for horse power upgrades but just to make the truck reliable. He has the fuel cooling flow you need to help the VP. Plus the Lift pump relocation kit. It's not expensive either. It's just that when you get it done you will see what I'm talking about about DC's engineers. All they want is for you to show up at the dealers service shop. That's how it's designed. So I hope you get into the right way of setting up your truck. Like me, I like my older style 2nd gen truck very much and have added a primary water seperating filter as all and every single diesel engine very much indeed needs. Again DC's design to go without.

 

I got a FASS (in-line) pump (without the filters), Vulcan drawstraw, and gauges.........and a whole lot of prayers this is going to be the last time!!!!!
Or I'm getting a 1st gen!!!!!!!

Went to Cummins in San leandro they charge $176.00 for that part? Maybe this is the California price.

Try another dealer. They tend to only sell to folks in their area, so you need to call around. The pumps were for UPS and school bus upgrades, so if you tell them it's for your '99 they will raise the price!

Call and ask for the campaign pump, # ya ya ya, how many you have in stock? They might just figure you've been there and know what you're doing!!!!! I ordered two, when I did it and have one under my rear seat.

I went back and noticed you WENT to them. I'd call and have them (or another) mail it. Won't cost much and you'll get fewer questions.

Get the campaigh pump, a spare pump & the Vulcan or something similar.
They should have come from the factory this way!

 

I'll tell it like it is. Dodge had nothing to do with engineering the original Carter lift pumps. That was a Cummins decision.
