I priced a new fuel pump at a Chrysler dealer today, they wanted £249 + 17.5% VAT, needless to say i won't be buying from them. I'll try and find a Cummins shop, and see how much cheaper they are..................

 

Just been on the Phone to Summit Racing, and they said they will not give 12 months warranty for the crt 4601hp because they say the seals swell and the pump fails after a short time pumping diesel fuel, even though they say on the webb page it's suitable for diesel, NOW WHAT????

I've been running the Carter pump that i bought from Summit racing for the past 3 years without a problem. So don't be afraid of not having a warranty on the part.

I can't believe you run that truck in the U.K.! You must have a money tree in the garden to afford to put fuel in that thing .

 

The price of fuel is something you just have to grin and bear, but it does play a major factor when buying a car for everyday use. Hopefully i'm going to live in Spain in the not to distant future, where the cost of fuel is a lot lower than here in the UK.

The truck does about the same MPG as the Nissan,Toyota etc, don't forget our gallons are bigger than the US ones and it will return about 24-26 to the gallon if you don't push it too hard. but it's the pure power they have, that leave the competition standing and their presence, you tower above the competition, and the bed is a full 6ft opposed to the 4ft something the rest, in it's class have.

Chrysler are going to sell these trucks through their dealership here in the UK sometime soon. But there are loads of Dodge Rams of all kinds here in the UK, especially 2nd & 3rd gens.

No i don't have a money tree, i wish i had, i don't use it for work and only use it at weekends.

I've managed to locate an OEM pump from Cummins at £70 which i don't think is too bad, as the truck is stock and i don't see any mods in the near future.

The stores guy asked me which sort of pump it was, from his discription i guess it's an AC Delco pump having looked under the bonnet (hood), can anyone confirm this??.............Ade

 

NAPA also carries these pumps. We stock them at work for the cp customers. Even cost at the dealer on the lift pump is unreal......and the NAPA pump comes with new nuts and banjo gaskets.

Not to highjack the thread but I thought DC had a recall on this stuff so if your LP and/or IP fail they have to replace them for free as long as the wire for the VP44 isn't tapped. Am I confusing this with engine warranty or what? TIA.

 

I had my original LP changed at 71k mi, for free at a good dealer. Now at 81k mi the replacement pump is shot( 15 psi at startup, but it imeadiatly drops to 5 psi when you get to 1200rpm. At 2000 rpm 1 psi ) So Off I went to a local *******. They use the TSB 14-002-03, 2 times it pumped 46 fluid oz's of fuel. So they told me it tested good , charged me $100 bucks pluss tax and said bye.
Now I'm ****** off, have writen to diamler chrysler about it, and said to them that I have 19k left on my warrantee and will be back but next time they will not get off that easy. Because it passed the flow test,( by 2 oz's of fuel) next time it will be both the LP, and the VP44. Then they can stick their flow test were the sun doesn't shine.

 

Would you believe it, i got my fuel pump from Cummins,here in the UK, they sent a mechanical pump, so when i rang them up, they said "why did we send you mechanical pump"?? I said your asking me??

They then asked for the engine serial # which is 8 digit, they then entered the # in the computer and "hey presto" the engine # is not on their records, so now they haven't got a clue, and i'm stuck with a mechanical pump which is of no use, although in all fairness they will take it back.

Anyone got any suggestions?????..................Ade

 

There should be a small label stuck on the side of your injection pump.

Those are the numbers they should need to get the correct pump.

 

I'll try and look a bit later today, if it stops raining. if not does anyone out there know the correct PN for the OEM lift pump.. Thanks for the imput Shovelhead............looks like i may get wet

 

The tag off the side of the box on my replacement fuel pump shows a Part number of:

3990105

Hope that helps narrow it down.
