ISB swap to a second generation.

I have a friend who maintains a large fleet of trucks, some of these have the 12 valve engine in them and he lost one recently. He is pondering whether he could do a swap with one of his newer ISB engines but run it as a non ISB.

Considering the electronic protocol differences involved , has anyone tried this?

Any ideas on the subject?

Re:ISB swap to a second generation.

he wants to puyt a 24v in a 12v's spot right? I don't see this being a plus. I think it would be cheaper and smarter to put the 12v back in it. but if he has the money and wants to do it for some odd reason than I know it could be done. he should make it s p-pumped 24v 8) that would be the way to go it he had a bunch of money laying all over his house that he just needed to get rid of

You are on track, he has the 24 valve engines laying around, the vehicle has a 12 valve in it now.

well than stick it in. I'm sure it would bolt up the same all he would have to do it figure out the injection system fuel lines and lift pump stuff. I don't think it would be that much $$ to put on it if you already have the engine.

Re:ISB swap to a second generation.

Lary,

I've never tried anything like this, but I think he'd be in for a world of grief. I'm not sure how the PCMs differed from the 12 valves to the 24 valves, but I doubt it would have all the necessary functionality to hook to the ECM of the 24 valve. He could P-pump the 24 valve, but by the time he was done with that, it would have been cheaper to buy a reman 12 valve and do the swap.

Re:ISB swap to a second generation.

I bet his P-7100 pump is fine...I see a 24V P pump conversion and run the 24V mechanical. 8)

Re:ISB swap to a second generation.

You might also be able to put the 24v bottom end under the 12v head and make it work. The piston bowls aren't that far off set in the 12v's.

Another option is to run the 24v without a pcm and use all the 12v mechanical guages.

Another option is to sell on of his 24v's and get a 12v short block.
