I have read that replacing your IAT sensor can help your mpg significantly if it is acting up. check this out,

You can have your injectors tested for pop-off pressure. Injectors CAN leak and wear out over time, but usually it takes a LOT longer than 77K. More like 377K miles.

Before you look to the engine for mpg, check things like diff fluid levels, tire pressure, etc.

I switched my whole driveline over to synthetic (diffs, tranny, t-case) and I believe that's part of why I get 20mpg+ on the interstate with a 4wd.

I would not go into mods until you fix the truck. It should be getting better mileage than that.

Are you running larger tires than stock? If you are, your milage will appear to be lower than it actually is.

Not only that, but you'll be driving at speeds quite a bit higher than what your speedo registers. Of course, that's a no-brainer but this past weekend I was notified by a member of Nevada's Highway Patrol that I was doing 92mph when I had the cruise set at 75 (I think his radar gun was a bit off, but I wasn't about to argue - especially since he let me off with a warning!). Based on his numbers my 800-mile trip yesterday was completed while getting 21+ mpg. Did I mention how much I love this truck???

Did 265's come on the truck or 245's? Small difference but that cold make up a little bit.

Also, this maybe a silly question, but will I rack up more miles or less miles on the odometer or is it taped into the trans.
THANKS
From what I've heard and understand, the odometer will read less milage than what you actually are obtaining. I don't think its tapped into the tranny, but I'm not too familiar in that dept. My general rule of thumb is that my speedo and odometer are off by 10% so I add that to my odometer at every fill up.
