Injector pump gone at 88,000 kms.
Wow, I could'nt believe it when the injector pump went at 88,000 kms. on my 2002
3500 dually. This can't be common ....or is it? Luckily Cummins warranty is still in effect
but now I'm worried about it going again in another 88,000 Kms.
Injector pumps are very expensive as you well know.
Diagnostics picked up several error codes for the pump.
lots of smoke when cold at idle, no throttle response periodically at any speed.
On cruise it sometimes starts to loose power, downshifts to compensate. Back
off throttle to an idle and it recovers itself again.
Anyone out there had similar problems? Hope I'm not inundated with mail on this one.
Bought the truck new and baby it.
Thanks for any info,
Bob

Many Bosch VP-44 pumps die.
Learn to change it yourself and save some $$.
Mine is dieing with 68,000 miles. Belches and shakes at times, has the 0216 code.
I intend to punish it and make it go as far as it can.
This pump must be compared to a tin can in a jewelry shop.
I really think mine has had issues for as far back as 30,000 miles.
How I miss my 95 with the good pump.

Yes VPs are more common than DC wants to comment on but that said they have made some improvements to them since their conception. More often than not (your case in point) the VP dies as a result of your LP going out this is why it is so important for you to have a fuel pressure gauge in the truck to moniter the LP pressure. There are thousands of posts on this here and you can read forever but the general thought by the experts is one should replace the fuel lines with a bigger line kit to help keep the LP from
I suggest you get a FP gauge installed then sit down with a
and do a search on LPs, and, fuel lines.
It will probably save you some $$$ down the road
Just my $.02
