Injection pump--I think??

This problem kinda baffles me, I searched the forums and found a lot of info, but i'm still not sure. My Cummins sputters once and a while when taking off from a stop, and usually accompanied by a puff of white/bluish smoke. Recently, upon start up, the usual diesel sound seems a bit muffled and the exhaust smells "different". Again, this phenomenon is accompanied by a large unsightly cloud of smoke (white). I checked codes, and much to my dismay, i do have the p0216 and 1693. I've come to terms with a new injection pump, however my real question involves my injectors. The Dodge dealer talked me into installing them not long after i purchased the pickup (before I knew about the vast realm of diesel performance). I believe they were Dr. Performance. Is there any way to check my injectors and discern if they are causing me any problems as well ?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Scott

GOT THE SAME PROB
in thebeginning it would happen at a slow crawl like 1500 1st gear i would floor it and it would clear up like somethin was stuck open
heres what i did in order of mods that i thought was fuel related

new cummins pump
valve adjust
injector cleaner
quadzilla
walbro kit with bigger lines from the tank all the way to the to the motor

id say the valve adjust made the most difference
i still get what you have now and then maybe 1 tine a day
my truck sounds like i got 1 loud injector or a valve adjuster out
it will make the tap or noise louder if i turn up my quad
maybe im nuts but it sounds like 1 thing out of tune in my motor music!
my nex step is 100 hp injectors
ill be putting them in after the first
i hope this will solve it cause i feel that i changed all i could to solve the problem
some things that i have read lead me to believe its a sticking injector
but ive seen thingsthat lead me to believe its a push rod bent or jumping around
i will keep u posted
if you dont here from me pm me after the 1st
ill fix this problem some how!! its drivin me nuts cause and white smoke means broke! right?

Well I guess I'm off to the local diesel performance shop....before it leaves me stranded.

FIXED IT!
one of these things fixed all my problems so you decide which it was....

1.fuel pressure at idle was low 14 and if i rev the truck it would pull down to11 or so..........upped pressure at idle to 25 and it pulles to 21 at wot

2. soldered the connection on my quad box where it gets tapped into pump and tps

3.ran a new line to my boost gauge,i thought it was leaking

its all good now,no sputter, surge or miss

Glad your problems seem to have gone away.

When the truck is very quiet and white-smokey at idle, this indicates a timing problem (very retarded timing). When the VP44 timing mechanism deteriorates this can happen (happened to me - truck idled amazingly quietly), and I suppose a poorly connected timing box might cause this too.
