Ok, long before we condemn your injection pump, let's start with the basics. Have you check for engine codes and do you have a tuner box of any sort on the truck?

http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/vp44_diagnostics.html USE THE GUIDE if in doubt. Excellent resource. My last issue turned out to be an air leak at the tank and I decided to do a Blue Chip IP anyway since I am pretty sure my stock reman had a torn diaphragm and sticky timing actuator.

And yup, it did. Averaging in combined driving I was getting 19 unloaded most the time and thought that was about as good as it would get. With the new IP I'm getting consistently 23.5mpg with the new IP. By my math it will pay for itself fairly quickly.

What codes are you showing? This sounds a lot like the problems I have been working through recently.

You don't want to hear this, but 1688 and 1689 are VP death codes.

Time for a VP44 as well.

I would suggest you not buy one based upon price, but look around for a quality supplier ( Hint, Bluechip...)
