How often do you need to get the valves ajusted on the 2001 5.9 Dodge cummins? If ever?

 

I think it is Cummins or DC that says 150k miles. I did mine at 70k and it made a big diff. truck ran smother. If you know your way with a wrench, them do it your self. it's not to hard and will only take about 1 maybe 1-1/2 hours.

 

I did mine a 45K. I know DC says it can be at a longer interval. I found that the valves were at the upper adjustment limit or slightly over. Bringing them back into specs made the engine run more smoother and quieter. With basic tools and a shop manual, it isn't that hard to do.

 

Is a torque wrench required? Are these instructions in the Haynes manual?

 

General rule is every 100K. I did mine at 80K due to one of the valves ticking (loose).
