Hour Meter

On a 2001 how can you tell how many hours there are on the diesel engine? I tried holding in the pin to reset the mileage for 6-10 seconds but that didn't work. Even tried it running and not running with the switch in the run/acc positions. I was going to install a Autometer hour meter since that trick didn't seem to work but want it to be accurate. So what I going to do is somehow find out the hours and hook the gauge up to a 12v source and let it run till it gets there and then put it in. Any thoughts on getting the hours?

Finding the hours on the engine yourself is something the 3rd gen guys can do. Unfortunately us 2nd gen guys can't unless the dealers DRB III scan tool can.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your purpose. Are you wanting to keep track of engine run time, because you odometer doesn't work?

You can install an elec. hour meter and leave it under the hood if you just need maintenance records.

You can get a rough idea of hours on an engine if you take the total miles driven (say 100,000) and divide by say 40 (that would be an average of 40 MPH for those 100,000 miles) = 2500 hours. It might be 45, but it's not has high a you might think as an average.

So the inverse is true. You could take your hour meter reading and multiply time (40) or (45) and get miles ran.

This is what I have now with the 6sp manual - A-Pillar Clock, Pyro, and Boost. I am going to move the Ambient Temp Gauge from the steering column and install the Fuel Pressure gauge.

I was going to add a 3 gauge dash pod with the Ambient Temp Gauge, Hour Meter, and Differential Temp Gauge. Should I do something different?

Hour meter? Planning on playing taximeter cabriolet when the sun goes down?

Last i had a scanner hooked up to my 2nd gen i didnt see anything about time.. however i hooked up the same scanner to a 2003 mazda 6 and saw the time and also last time and mileage since the CEL was cleared/serviced.

Pretty sure 2nd gen's dont have that spiffy feature.
