help! I got fuel everywhere

It started with a few drops and now I have fuel everywhere. It is coming out of the top of the filter canister and appears to be coming from the two wires for the fuel heater. I called cummins and they told me it would be $32.00. Not bad, but they don't have one in stock and they could not tell me when a new one would come in. They gave me the part number for the dealership and I called them they can only find one in Colorado. Great
!! right. Wrong, they want $284.00. No that is not a typo. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions that worked on their truck. I also tried salvage yards in the Denver area with no luck. Thanks is advance for any help.

You sure the Cummins store has the right part for the fuel heater? I believe I saw a discussion on how that part had been discontinued and that it superceded to the newer style fuel canister (thus the cost at the dodge store).

I had a discussion on this with a vegas member. He took the fuel heater apart and found that he could repair it with a couple of O rings. That's worth looking into.

Same problem here. If you found a source for the parts, I would like to order one myself. My local dealer here tried to sell me a 2000 or 2001 canister setup as mentioned above. By the way, has this fuel leak led to any depriming of the vp and hard starting? I have to vice grip my fuel line after shutdown. Maybe I had better look at the vp check valve..

I took the fuel filter cannister out and took it apart. The fuel is coming up from where the wires for the heater enter the black plastic insulator. The red wire is bare at thepoint where it goes into the black plastic piece. I tried to attach a picture but I do not think it worked Sorry.

Look on ebay for a replacement, the entire filter housing. Although mine is not leaking yet, that's where I am going to find one.

There are two of them on e-bay. they both have about two days left on them and they were over $100.00. I can't wait that long. I need this truck for work. So here is what I have tried, I used Fusor to fill the area around the electrical housing and put it back together. I will let you know what happens when I get the housing back in the truck. It is too cold and dark and I am a wimp.

Try calling a few diesel shops in your area. When most guys get a FASS system, they bypass the filter housing completely, so they might have a couple laying around. Or chuck a wanted add up in the classifieds.

Try posting an add

Now that is a great idea. I called several shops in the Denver area and had no luck. I live about four miles from ATS but did not call them. I will try that in the morning. Thanks for two very good suggestions.

$100 is too much IMO.

Fuel heater repair

Well I put it back together after allowing the Fusior to dry over night. Net required but it was cold last night. So I put it back together this morning when it was light and it seems to be holding. After driving it all day there was just a slight film of fuel on the outside of the top of the canister. no drips no runs. When the new one comes in I will replace it though. Thanks for all the help. I still can't believe what Dodge wants for parts. This after you pay over 40G's for a new truck. If it weren't for the Cummins I would tell them to stuff it. Just my two cents worth.

whats the part number? check dodgeparts.com and see what you can get it for in the OEM catalog. They are pretty quick on the shipping and you can have it overnighted

The part # at Cummins for the heater is 3898285-S
The part # at Cummins for the filter cannister is 3898282-S
These are both made by Fleetguard.
The Dodge number is 48824441. They want $284.00 in the Denver area.
