Gauge Installation Instructions

After saving my pennies for a couple of weeks, I'm ready to purchase at least 1 (possibly 2) of the 3 gauges I eventually want to have my for truck. My current financial situation demands that I purchase these in phases instead of one big purchase. I've been in contact with Rod and WildCat and I believe I can afford at least the fuel pressure gauge and maybe the tranny temp gauge, along with an A-pillar gauge mount (w/ the speaker). I also plan to purchase the larger banjo bolts at the same time.

I've done a lot of searching and reading but haven't found any answers to a couple of my questions...

1) How difficult is it to install the fuel pressure gauge? Are there any specific additional items I should order? (hoses, fittings, anything???) Any "tricks of the trade" that I need to keep in mind when I install this?

2) What's the best way to route wires/hoses up to the A-pillar for the gauges?

I did some calling around locally and was quoted anywhere from $400-500 to over $1k to install all 3 of the gauges that I would like (fuel pressure, EGTs, tranny temp). I'm pretty good with a wrench and feel I could probably do this all myself. At the same time, I don't want to screw this up. Any feedback/advice/links to instructions would be much appreciated.

I would save the money on the installation and do it yourself. All that it takes is some time and patience. I found it fairly easy to route the wiring for my trans temp, pyro and boost gauges through the dash and up to the A pillar mount. There is a decent amount of room on the drivers side of the dash where the wiring needs to go up through. I mounted my mechanical FP gauge in a single pod on the bottom of the dash just above and to the side of the 4x4 shifter. I used aeroquip (sp?) fittings on my FP lines. These were recommended to me by several people.
If I remember right (getting old), some of my Isspro gauges came with instruction on hooking them up. I'll bet Rod can get you all of the additional parts (in addition to the gauges) and instructions that you need if you ask him. Also, if you do a search on this site, you can probably find instructions and pictures on pyro probe locations, boost line installation and fuel pressure tap in location and hookup. Good luck.

TRY THIS for pyrometer install. I think it says to drill for 1/4'' but I did 1/8". Just thought if there was a smaller hole then there would be less chance of cracking. Just piece of mind for me. Make sure you get the short thermocoupler and make sure it adjustable. Wiring is self explanitory if you have ever wired anything on a vehicle before. For a boost gauge there is two places that are easy to do. One is to get the bolt that replaces one of the intake bolts that has a boost hose fitting built in or the other is to remove the boost port 3/4" plug next to the MAP sensor and get a 3/4" to 1/8" reducer at the hardware store for your gauge hose. I dont know about tranny temp since I have a manual. For fuel pressure, well if your getting new banjo's then there is a place to tap in your gauge fitting. You can put the gauge fitting on the banjo under the fuel filter so you can see if you filter is dirty, too. Just when you replace those banjos just take a second to see how big your fuel lines ID is. If there is any spots that are 1/8" ID then I highly suggest replacing them or no banjo will help you. There is a small spot to slip wires and hoses up between the dash and pillar but its a tight fit and may require you to push a coat hanger down first with a string then tie them to the wires, ect. and pull them back up. Put all your stuff together on top first then pull wires snug (NOT TIGHT) since you might need to get to your gauges later and then hook it all up. If you go the other way you will have a mess. Plan ahead. Use you head. Dont get ahead of yourself and you will do just fine. If you want I have a few things you might want. A 2 gauge pillar mount that mounts on top of you existing pilllar, a steering column single gauge mount, and an Isspro mechanical fuel pressure guage. All are brand new condition (I even have the gauge box) and I'll be happy to make a good deal with you just so I can get more shelf room. E-mail me if your interested.

Forgot to say, you can run all your wires and hose through the big rubber grommet on the fire wall. And if I am remembering right thats an Isspro 5406.

so you wont need to drill through the firewall? There is enough "give" in the current grommet to handle the gauge wiring?

Correct. There's plenty of room and then some. It gets kinda tight when you also have an 8 gauge amp wire running through there along w/ the gauge wiring and fuel hose. You shouldn't have any problems.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I was working. Yes its a black face, white numbers. 5406. Isolator and hose are still in bag. There is no wiring that comes with it. Just get some wire and fittings from the store for all your gauges.
