Fuel sender/transfer pump
Fuel sender/transfer pump
New guy here let the learning curve begin. I'll try to make this short. Truck had sat for 6 days at the airport and I come back to 0 volts. It's 12 degrees with a 30 kt. wind, 1 1/2 hours for the tow truck to arrive, he finally arrives in a Lincoln with 3 battery packs, he attaches all 3 with no luck. 45 minutes of charging off the continental and I'm running, now with the engine light on. Off I go. 50 miles later climbing a bridge and the engine dies. Now I'm at the top of the bridge with a 40 kt. wind and it's 10 degrees, 1 hr. later and 2 tow trucks and I'm on my way to the dealer. At the dealer I realize the backward tow on the ramp truck blew my fiberglass touneau off damaging the cab. I needed a screwdriver to pry my toes apart. 4 am I arrive home to a broken heating system. Ever had a bad night? 3 days later the dealer tells me they're replacing the "Fuel Transfer Pump". After paying them $977 I now have a fuel gauge with a mind of it's own so I ran out of fuel yesterday. The truck is running with a gauge that wanders. My question is could the battery packs have caused a problem that would have turned on the check engine light and is the fuel pump back at the tank..... any chance the dealer screwed up the fuel sender and or wiring to it?
It would help others if you provide the info on your truck in your signature. I had to replace my Fuel Sending Unit (sometime called Fuel Transfer Pump) which is in the tank on my truck. It sounds like you had the same replacement in which case it is possible the wiring may have been impacted during the removal/installation process of your fuel sending unit.
Thanks for the help & suggestions. I haven't had time to check it out yet but it makes sense that the sender and transfer pump are one in the same. Also I changed my signature to include my truck info.
