fuel pressure ports??

truck is `98.5 24 valve 5spd dually, Past couple of days the truck has been hard to start, as in cranks forever before starting up. Did some reading on here and decided to put a gauge in the fuel pressure ports on the ff canister, I tried this on both ports with a McDaniel 0/30 psi guage and on both ports it read 0, and I mean 0, it didnt move at all. Ive read on here that when alot of folks finally put a fuel pressure gauge on they realize there not getting enough, but ZERO.....is this the lift pump or the vp44 or both.need help quick thanks in advance...

Ok my experience last week was very similar I actually opened the hood and had a friend bump the starter, after that you should be able to hear the LP for about 25 seconds as it cycles up and builds pressure.

If you don't hear that your problem is a dead LP. and yes mine was actually dead, nothing, and for the most part the truck ran and started reasonably well.

Just because it's buzzing doesn't mean it's pumping.

Change the lift pump and hope it hasn't been bad very long, killing the injection pump.

When you put the gauge on did you bleed the line to get the air out. I know that you should still have a little pressure even with air in the line, but it does make a difference. Also, did you try to make sure that the gauge works? Just a couple of things to look at, but it doesn't sound very good for you. Probably will need a new lift pump and hope that the vp44 is still good.

Change the LP and buy a gauge. Can't stress that gauge enough.
