Fuel Hose Break while Driving!!

The 5/16 fuel hose leading from my fuel pump to my fuel filter housing (stock setup) split at the pump where it turns up 90 degrees towards the filter housing. This happened while driving around the Houston loop and had several people telling me to pull over, I pulled into a gas station and fuel was gushing out; I suspect that I lost just over 20 gallons along a 5 mile stretch. Luckily, my work/shop was only about 5 mins away and I had my mechanic bring me some fuel line and all was better. I never felt a difference in the engine and this took place in 5-10 mins.

Is this a common occurrence? The line was almost cut in half. I changed my fuel pump about a month ago and I think I must have done something to put it in a bind. I added some extra hose so it’s a gentle curve instead of an elbow.

The drivers underside (front to back) looks brand new since it is coated in diesel. I sprayed my tire / engine compartment with simple green to try and remove the diesel from the front brakes since I can feel the oil on the pads / rotors. I guess enough driving around and it will burn off. The worst part about the ordeal is the $60 of diesel that litterlaly spilled all along the highway.
