Fuel Filter Drain Valve

Truck acted like I was out of fuel two mornings in a row. After bleeding it off it would start and crank all day long. Figured I was loosing prime. Yesterday I noticed a drip comming from the drain on the ff canister. I opened and closed it and then it was leaking really bad when running. I pulled it off last night and it had some trash in it. I got new o-rings today. Napa told me I would have to go threw the dealer for a new valve. Has anyone purchased just the valve and any idea what im looking to pay?

I've noticed my drain valve on my fuel filter is wet and wondered if there is something wrong with it. Probably just the orings if that's what is sealing it.

swapping the entire filter/drain to a filter with a built in drain (fleetguard fs1221) is common with 12v's.

replaced mine after it was leaking while running. Put on new valve and still leaked just not as bad. Then I adjusted the raptor pressure down from 20 to 10-12 at idle and no more leak. What's going on? Just to much pressure or is something else the real cause? I thought you could run 20psi at idle with no problem.

I have ran 19-20 at idle for over 4 years now with my fass/150 and no problems... could be weather and climate too

Shouldn't be a pressure issue. I've got a 45psi fass running through the factory filter with no leaks.

i have an 01 that i bumped the drain while the truck was running, thing would not shut off, i cleaned mine the best i could, lightly blew out with compressed air, put back together and still on the truck, the transmission lines, mine were leaking near the front of the truck at a fitting similar to a fuel fitting, snap in type, i hope you have better luck than i had, took the truck (first time) mech seperates the fitting and installs new o-ring, take it back and he then changes out one of the fittings, then i went and bought new lines and replaced them, they are pretty proud of the lines (dealer only) but it fixed my truck....

I'm not sure what the problem was but it seems to be solved for now. Is there a relief valve in the pump or somewhere that's not functioning (relieveing the pressure) and causing back pressure?

You have to make sure the plunger is seated when you put the handle down.

The o-rings will sometimes catch on the inside of the barrel and not properly seat if you don't push directly down on the plunger when closing the valve. Just snapping down the handle often isn't enough.

It's a crappy setup. The 3rd gens have a much better twist to open setup that is infinitely more reliable and I believe it's a direct bolt on to the 2nd gen fuel cannister.

I'll do some more looking around see if anything else could be going on. Thanks for the info.

I just replaced the drain valve on my '01 after it started leaking. Purchased it directly from Cummins for about $11 and installed it in 10 minutes. You can get the part from Chrysler as well but the price is about double.

BTW, the Cummins part number is 395945300 S.
