fuel filter drain leak
 

Well, since I replaced my last fuel filter I've had a slow drip from the drain on my fuel filter. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it or can it be replaced? It looks like there are just 2 screws holding it to the fuel filter.

I have had the same problem.

Lot's of these leaking since the change to ULSD.

It can be replaced.

I think this happened to me too and at the worst time I might add.


i found a small ?sand? partical that must have pluged the drain valve open.

getting it clean was the hard part but keeping it clean what I did was:
I suspected it came up from the tubing as it looked to dirty so I drilled air holes in a sealed plastic bottle and taped the tube inside.
no problems since i did that 14000km ago

i thought i had a similar problem... pushed down on the "plunger" that the lever pushes up, and problem solved... just something to check

I think this is the fuel drain valve for the 2000. Mine is different on my 1999. Might the o-rings be fatigued? Looks like they're easy enough to replace. Use BUNA o-rings, more expensive but they won't succumb to fuel damage like the standard hardware store cheaper version will.

Be sure to lube the entire o-ring with fuel, oil, or petroleum jelly (pet) prior to install. When the o-ring is sealing properly, only a small portion is exposed to the fluid and the rest is prone to heat and dryness. Installing it with some pet will extend it's life.

my boys leaked 2000 dodge, dodge wanted $75 got the whole part and new o ring from cummins $17+ shipping piece of cake to change out. Ed

I have fiddled, fondled, caressed, swore, tightened, pushed, pulled, loosened, jiggled and cannot get the "thing" to quit leaking. I phoned dodge and they want $42.00 for a new one and it will be here this afternoon.

Good thing I just put heat in the garage as its -22 here this morning...

This truck is starting to nickle and dime me to death...

Well, new one is on, only took 4.5 hours. Stripped out the threads on the engine side. Boy that aluminum is soft. 2 fingers on a 1/4 inch ratchet and "click". Could not get a tap in there, just got a slightly bigger screw with a nut for a spacer and now no more leaks (till the next one). Washed everything off and all is well on the Cummins...

Bought several of the kits to repair this from Cummins for under $10 each.
