Fuel Delivery Problem???
Fuel Delivery Problem???
Need some opinions and insight please!!
2002 Dodge 2500, AFE air intake, 4 inch exhaust, Edge Attitude with Juice Box (mainly used for towing on Stage 2, mainly left on 0-stock)
About 6 months ago started having problems with loosing power and throttle response. Noticed first with no load on truck just normal driving. Did a light tow one weekend and had almost constant power loss issues and irratic transmission shifting. Engine light came on, unplugged main Edge box connector. Continued having same issues, connected Edge Box back up. Pulled codes off ECM -PCU-1693, ECU-0237 and ECU-0216. Reset computer. Problems became very speratic and decreased in regularity.
As the temperatures got warmer the problem seemed to increase in frequency. Now seems to be happening every time the truck sits for a period of time (1-2 hours or overnight). Had truck put on diagnostic computer but because problem does not happen at specific times, it did not happen while on computer and was not able to get any diagnosis.
Because it is now happening an regular basis when first starting in the morning, we were able to get it on a diagnotistic computer which only told us that something was shutting the fuel selinoid on and off, but would not give a reason why.
Once the truck gets over it's fit it seems to run strong and good. We thought that the Edge box may have had something to do with the selenoid going on and off, we disconnected the whole system and returned vehicle to stock. The engine light came on and the truck ran like crap. Complete loss of power, very sluggish up hill, throttle could be held to floor and truck would move forward but would have very erratic transmission shifting. Reinstalled Edge Box, truck ran better, engine light went off, but continue to have original problems. Seems as though Edge Box is actually compensating for loss of power and timing.
We have a diesel mechanic who has looked at it and researched on his own, but is hesitant to throw a dart at an expensive fuel pump right off the bat since the problem is erratic.
Any thoughts?

As you describe , it would seem that a temp sensor is an issue , or connections to temp sensor & computer , there are at least a couple , coolant temp , air intake .
But its common that many electrical components start to fail at temp changes , before complete failure .
You make no mention of fuel pressure , thats also , one of the 1st things to check .
You do not know till its over if paying for diagnostics is cheaper than just putting in parts , but I always try the testing / diagnostics as a 1st , but some times the manual says , " replace with known good part and continue testing " .
If its a cheap enough part this may be OK , but as a repair tech , I try to find tests that confirm and learn from .

Had new intank fuel pump put on by dealer before problems. Edge box is showing 10-11 fuel pressue at idol, stage 0 on box. Never changes, even when truck is acting up.
REad in other posts about Apps sensor, never did a reset on it, should that be something to check into?

How soon after the dealer pump did problems start , that could be an issue ?
Fuel pressure never changes , an other issue , I'm under the impression that it should vary as demand changes .
Until you find the problem , suspect any & every thing .
1st how soon after dealer work done & issues ?
So my recommendations are , fuel pressure , confirm with shop gauge .
Reset .
Test all temp sensors .

I am going to pick up where Dirtybluejeepette left off as she is my wife with much more computer time than my self so she had time to write the original posts
as for the the fuel pressure from the tank it idles at about 10 but under throttle drops to about 8 or so
I keep my edge box setting at 0 which is the stock setting ectept when towing which is setting 2
The problem I dont think is related to the dealer installed tank pump
I am at my wits end with this problem
Any help is much apprieciated
