Fluid Change

I have a 1999 Dodge Diesel 3/4ton 4x4. Want to change the differentials and transfer case oil. DJF Front axle is Dana 60f, DRE rear is spicer 70. Looking at changing to Royal Purple. Can you tell me how much oil each takes? How much syncomesh purple the transfer case takes? Thanks

You sure its not a Dana 70 in the rear? NV241hd transfer case takes 6.5 pints. The front axle takes less than the rear and the proper fluid level is 1/2" below fill plug, cool/level. Mine has a D80 rear and the fill level is 3/4" below the fill plug. IIRC its similar to the 70. I'll check the service manual for sure and re-post.

I've got my service manual out but it id's the rear and front diff's with a Chrysler # rather than calling them by their real names. here's what I found:

267-RBI (4wd) 7.5 pints rear
248-FBI 8.5 pints front

Transfer case NV-241 4.61 pints
NV-241HD 6.51 pints
These are dry fill quantities and I am unsure these are the correct values w/o knowing the cross reference correctly but they sound about right. The 3/4 and 1 tons got the d-60 front diffs and the rears were d-70's for 2500 auto's and 5 speeds, D-80's for 3500 and 6-speeds. Somone else should chime in for sure!

Sounds like an Automatic. Would be a Dana 70 in rear and takes 3-4 qts. 4 Qts each will do both front and rear... if factory covers.

If interested enough.... go the Dodge Parts Dept, w/ VIN #, and ask for a "Build Sheet". Should be free.
Lists everything on the truck, as it came from the factory. Worth having if truck is new to you. Then only question is...has anything been changed?
