Flex plate question
Well my trans isn't down so I haven't pulled it to inspect yet but it does have 153000 K on it . I haven't priced a new one maybe i'll check that out tommorrow . I've never talked too Dave himself he's turned those dutys over to Craig . An i'm not sure when they added the beefed up plates to there inventory Big Foot . An it looks like your truck the dually with the slide in camper proubly has the 4:10 gears an boosted RWHP would put more pressure on the drive train than mine . An Dave said just get a new Plate an carry on Hu! Do you run a T/C lock up switch or controller on your 47 RE ? Thanks for the input guys this is the food for thought i've been looking for.
Does anyone know if the flex plate that cummins has is more heavy duty than stock ? I found some old post on here that brought up alot of food for thought. Such as balance issues with laminated plates as well as run out. An the fact that you can get a Genuine Cummins plate for $ 144.00 . I was just wondering are any of you running one of those. BD's billet plate would be nice but at $450 an its really over kill for me . But I am convinced I need something strounger than stock . Had my mind made up to get the laminated one from Dave but now i'm not sure .
Well I got my genuine Cummins flex plate today it does appear to be shot peened but , I could not believe what was stamped on it. MADE IN CHINA IN BOLD LETTERS dang its sickning know wonder it was so cheap . I had a rude awakening a fue months ago when I bought Rabestos rear brake drums opened the genuine box MADE IN CHINA embosed on the drum . Anymore Genuine dozen't mean anything . Buy the way does a person need to use thread lock on the mount bolts I got new ones an what does the Chinese bolts torque at? My plate isn't cracked but I did notice some rust around the mount bolts so I guess i'm gonna install this new plate an hope its better than the one i'm pulling . Thanks
travelingman, I wouldn't get too freaked out over where it was made, so long as it is genuine Cummins. They aren't about to lose their reputation over parts quality.
They just make sure they hire the best Chinaman to make parts......

Hope your right PATDAYLY The only reason I changed mine was the 153 K on it it looked fine . The only difference I noticed was the one I took out was shot pinned all the way out to the lip that turns up for the starter ring . The chinese one is penened out to the first turn up . I checked the thickness an its the same. But as I said in the begining I'm not going to be running any exstreme power I thing my Edge EZ only goes to 60HP over stock an I've got it set on the 30HP setting . But this has been a educational thread reading peoples exsperiences an some failing with moderate use . I really think the BD plate would be the way to go but at $ 450 it was over kill big time for me . I hope I don't end up regreting my choice to stay with a new OEM plate, because pulling an reistalling one of these transmissions isn't on my list of fun things to do . I never got to talk to Dave a Goerend personally Craig has taken over those Dutys an he said for my desciption of how this truck will be used he thinks stock will be just fine .
