Fleetguard LF3894 StrataPore - you can get them from Geno's Garage. This is the only oil filter I would ever run.

ohhhhh boy here we go again...j/k

but really, just try a search up above for what your asking and there is A LOT of info on this and if there's anymore questions feel free to ask.

but for my 2cents, i would recommend, Rotella 15W-40 oil with a Wix or NAPA Gold oil filter, or just a good quality filter. lots of people will agree with this, but it is also a "different strokes for different folks" kinda thing too. you'll find all sorts of mixed opinions about it too, the main thing to remember is, you get what you pay for. but also, the oil if cheapest at Menards here, but wal-mart has it really cheap too.

good luck and you also might try posting this in the fuel/oils yada yada forum probably get more hits, but they also might just tell you what i did, use the "search"

This is almost like asking which religion or political party is best.

It's on the recommended sheet from Cummins and used on most fleet trucks. As far as OIL goes - I'm not gonna touch that hot subject and will not go there. I will see if I can find the spec sheet for the 5.9L. There are about 6-7 filters that they recommend.

Synthetic filter media is the big advantage of the Stratapore LF3849...it filters better than the regular cellulose or microglass filters.

Here we go....

See the table below for a list of filters recommended by DaimlerChrysler for use with the 5.9L Cummins diesel engine.)

NOTE: SECTION 2.7 OF THE TRUCK WARRANTY MANUAL STATES DAIMLERCHRYSLER MOTORS CORPORATION IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR FAILURES RESULTING FROM IMPROPER REPAIR OR THE USE OF PARTS WHICH ARE NOT GENUINE DAIMLERCHRYSLER MOTORS CORPORATION / MOPAR OR DAIMLERCHRYSLER MOTORS CORPORATION / MOPAR APPROVED PARTS. DAMAGES CAUSED BY THE USE OF OIL FILTER NOT APPROVED BY DAIMLERCHRYSLER MAY NOT BE COVERED BY THE NEW VEHICLE WARRANTY. DAIMLERCHRYSLER RECOMMENDS THE FOLLOWING OIL FILTERS. DO NOT USE ANY OIL FILTER CONTAINING NEOPRENE. PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS.

RECOMMENDED OIL FILTERS FOR USE WITH CUMMINS 5.9L DIESEL ENGINE:

Part Number Manufacturer
05016547AC Mopar
LF3894 Fleetguard Stratopore
LF3552 Fleetguard Microglass
LF3949 Fleetguard Cellulose
3937695 Cummins Cellulose
FL896 MotorCraft Cellulose
L45335 Purolator Cellulose
PF1070 AC Delco Cellulose

Policy: Information Only

Notes:

The LF3349 Cellulose filter does not appear on this list. It was approved in the past for 12Valve engines, but it has been superseded by the LF3949, which has a stronger metal case for the 24 Valve engines. You can use your existing LF3349's for 12 valve engines without concern about warranty coverage.

The above bulletin from Dodge is no longer in effect.
Under threat of lawsuit from Fram after a joint investigation by DC, Cummins and Fram proved that Fram filters had a very low incidence of failure DC withdrew the filter requirement bulletin.

This doesn't mean you should use a Fram filter though, they are cheaply made.
