FASS HPFP Issues

FASS HPFP Issues
Well im finally back in the diesel buisness after selling my 06 I now just bought a 2001 Cummins. After bringing it home I noticed the lift pump was replaced with the Fass HPFP pump. The issue is the pump only stays on for a second when the key is turned to the on position and does not run after the truck starts. After doing all my tracing and testing I found that the pigtail that connects to the truck that tells the pump when to come on does not. It only gives power for a second. My question is can I just bypass the truck connection and just wire the pump to a keyed on circuit like the windows. That is how I did my airdog setup on the 06. Thanks for all the help

I just spoke to the guys at FASS yesterday about this and was told they do this quite often. I will be doing the same this weekend
You may or may not throw a code but it won't affect anything.

One thing to consider ....what happens if you are in an accident? What shuts off the fuel pump?
I installed a pressure switch to a oil port on the Driver side of the block - the switch closes when oil pressure is greater than 5 psi. If the engine shuts off - the oil pressure drops - and power to the fuel pump is terminated!

When I dropped the tank to install the new larger fuel pick up tube, I upgraded to the new wiring harness from FASS that includes a relay. The power comes directly from the battery now and the stock fuel pump connection only powers the relay.

That is the main reason I would run another line to the relay.
I had planned on doing this but found my issue to be something else and took care of it.
