Failed Inspection

Of all the things to fail on, they failed it because the parking brake won't hold it on an incline...seriously????? Not the 18-wheeler horn, not the loud exhaust, nor the smoke, but b/c of a friggin parking brake. I even explained to him since it's a manual it's in gear on a hill and will not roll... Anyone know how to adjust it?

If it was a last century truck I could.

Maybe new rear brake pads?

was told they have plenty of pad left. There's gotta be an adjustment on this dang thing.. Maybe I'll just go back up there and back up to their door and fill 'er full of black goodness...

Should be able to tighten the cable under the truck. My dad's done it a few times. Couldn't tell you where though, I'd just start poking around until you find it.

Check along the frame rail for where the cable from the pedal splits to each tire. If you can't find it that way, follow a cable back from the brakes. The nut will be where the split happens. Hit it w/ PB blaster cus those things never move easily for me.

Good call, forgot about that.

It might have a star wheel, not entirely sure. I do know for a fact every time my dad has adjusted his though it was a cable adjustment. Especially since the shoes are good. Isn't a star wheel adjustment designed to make up for wear in the shoes?

just because the shoes still have good pads on then, don't mean that there not worn. the start wheel was put there to adjust the shoes when the park brake won't hold any more, and that sounds like his problem

But aren't star wheels self adjusting? Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand here..

The parking brakes are for parking, basically a non-wear issue, there's no reason for them to auto. adjust. The manual shows exactly what Blackdiesel described.

You are mistaken if you think your truck can't roll because it is in gear. Normally they won't roll when in gear, but than can.

You may need rear axle seals. My parking brake quit holding and I discovered both axle seals had leaked, coating the shoes with oil.
