Funny this topic came up....I just moved my egt from post to pre turbo this morning. I meant to do it that way the first time but I needed my gauges in quick for a weekend pull and went with the post turbo install as it was quick.

Not sure what temps you'll see with what your running but if I remember right the Cummins can run at 1300* for long periods but most try to stay under that.

As I stated prev, I installed my EGT gauge post turbo. I would like to purchase another probe, and be able to connect it to existing gauge through a switch, so I can change which probe I am looking at on the gauge. Has anyone done this, Is it possible w/this type of gauge? Also, I did not originally install the probe pre turbo, becaus there is no flat surface on the exhaust man., In the link provided by Katoom prev, the diagram shows a flat surace..., is that just for ease of drawing?

So this means the turbo is a major restrictin in air flow, which is understandable, so if I disable the wastegate(all exhaust pushing the turbo) then the egt pre and post turbo should be quite different all the time.

What kind of mods on your truck? I don't imagine I am pushing anywhere close to the same amount of fuel as you are, so I don't imagine my egt will be so different pre and post turbo as what you saw.

When I installed my gauges, I did not really like my location options pre turbo, so I just put it post turbo expecting to mentally add 100* to the reading. Anybody have pictures of pre turbo pyrometer location on stock manifold?
All I had was an Edge Comp in EZ mode, a BHAF, and a 4" exhaust. The Edge actually dropped my temps from 1300 pre turbo to 980.

When I installed my EZ (with boost elbow) and Jardine 4" exhaust system on the same weekend, pre-turbo EGTs dropped from 1300 degF to 1100 degF (stock injectors) when towing our 13,500 lb 5th wheel RV. Most of the drop was due to the increase in boost (thus, airflow) from 21 PSIG to 30 PSIG due to the installation of the boost elbow.

Yes you can do that with the guage and I remember someone else doing it too. Or you can do it another way by getting a dual temp guage that reads both thermocouplers at once. I think Westach is one of the companies that makes one. And no there really isnt a FLAT spot to drill at but its not that hard to do. The only thing I did was got a 1/8" thread size instead of the 1/4". Lot smaller hole and I though maybe it would help on any cracking issues. Not really sure if it was just for peace of mind more than anything.
