Exhaust Temps
ok guys you helped make up my mind i am going out right now to move thermocouple from post to pre turbo. where is the absolute best position to put it. does neone have any site info or pics.
thanks, mooseman

ive changed positions from post to pre turbo. what temps should i see now. also whats a safe max temp to run at and what can i run max for short bursts (like when a stroker gets in the way and you got to pass on the hills).
thanks all, mooseman

Funny this topic came up....I just moved my egt from post to pre turbo this morning. I meant to do it that way the first time but I needed my gauges in quick for a weekend pull and went with the post turbo install as it was quick.

As I stated prev, I installed my EGT gauge post turbo. I would like to purchase another probe, and be able to connect it to existing gauge through a switch, so I can change which probe I am looking at on the gauge. Has anyone done this, Is it possible w/this type of gauge? Also, I did not originally install the probe pre turbo, becaus there is no flat surface on the exhaust man., In the link provided by Katoom prev, the diagram shows a flat surace..., is that just for ease of drawing?

OK, that means the wastegate is in the equation, right. If the wastegate is allowing most of exhaust to bypass the turbo, the temp pre and post turbo is within 75* of each other. So this means the turbo is a major restrictin in air flow, which is understandable, so if I disable the wastegate(all exhaust pushing the turbo) then the egt pre and post turbo should be quite different all the time.

What kind of mods on your truck? I don't imagine I am pushing anywhere close to the same amount of fuel as you are, so I don't imagine my egt will be so different pre and post turbo as what you saw.
When I installed my gauges, I did not really like my location options pre turbo, so I just put it post turbo expecting to mentally add 100* to the reading. Anybody have pictures of pre turbo pyrometer location on stock manifold?

When I installed my EZ (with boost elbow) and Jardine 4" exhaust system on the same weekend, pre-turbo EGTs dropped from 1300 degF to 1100 degF (stock injectors) when towing our 13,500 lb 5th wheel RV. Most of the drop was due to the increase in boost (thus, airflow) from 21 PSIG to 30 PSIG due to the installation of the boost elbow.
