How can you kill the exauhst drone.

 

Add a muffler???

 

Droning is caused by the pipe resonating at a harmonic frequency. If you change the mass (wieght) of the pipe, you will change its resonant frequency. If you get some angle iron and some hose clamps you can experiment with what mass kills the drone. You can then weld the iron to the pipe to make it permanent or just leave the clamps.

 

Well that's clever, J.R.! I went to a straight pipe after the muff died, and it is just a bit too much, especially with my foot in it! Don't open the window, Mildred! Could you give us an idea of just where we might try strapping on a piece of angle iron?

 

You could use 6 inch pieces and some hose clamps. Best place I think is around where your muffler would have been. Keep adding the angle iron pieces until you get it just right. Then you could either weld it in place or just use the hose clamps.
