I went to their web site and it doesn't tell you what it does. I can guess that it is itself a manual switch that cuts up to eight wires in half then rejoins them when the cover is installed. Those eight wires are not all necessary. The problem I see is if the motor turns over and it's got fuel it will start. There are a number of ways to turn the motor over with a standard but only the starter on an auto. As the starter can very quickly always be made to turn over the only solution is to not give the engine any fuel. Besides those 16 pins will corrode and cause problems (even if gold plated) and what if you misplace the one cap you have with you?
