engine codes

Hi all,
I hope someone can help me with the codes

I ran the codes on my truck and ended up with a few.
P PCU
P 1693
P done
P ECU
P 0216

Now the reason I am pulling codes is because on the long weekend I pulled my TT through the mountains and was getting dead pedal a bit. Only when I was cruising along with hardly no pressure on the go pedal or none at all ( down hill ), I would then either have to shift down and get the RPMs up or throw the tranny in Neutral and play with the pedal and it would come back to me. It would not do it if the truck was under load.
I just replaced the lift pump and fuel filter before I left because I was losing fuel pressure at idle and cruising with little or no pressure on the go pedal. My fuel pressure was consistant on the trip. 15-16 at idle and 11-12 wot. I run my Edge on level 2 when towing and level 1 around town empty.
The truck has 237,000 kms on it which is around 108,00 miles. When I did'nt have dead pedal the truck pulled hard and ran like a top.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Eeek, you got the 216. Thats the VP44 (injection pump) dead/dying code.

P0216 - Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction

The 1693 is just the companion code, letting you know the same code is on the ECM.

Your fuel pressure is good. No need to worry about that. Keep an eye on your VP44 for anymore problems.

How long does the injection pump usually last when you start getting dead pedal?

I'd start brushing up on the R+R of that IP. Might even want to purchase a pump at some point if you keep getting the dead pedal.

I have read ranges on this forum that go from weeks to years before the IP takes a dump. Sometimes the 216 never comes up again. Glad to see you've at least got that many miles on the beast. I'm still on my original and I hope to get at least 200,000 on the original IP. It sucks when someone only gets 50,000 miles and then the IP fails. It's got quite a reputation around here.

The IP R+R seems to be a 2 - 3 hour job, and the going rate for a pump is around $1050 - $1100

Good luck

That isn't quite true.....the 1693 is a companion DTC in the PCM to a another DTC that isn't retrievable from the ECM without the appropriate scanner. If the codes weren't scanned with the appropriate scanner and only in the odometer display and the 1693 appeared, it is worth while to get the truck hooked up to a scanner to see what exactly is triggering the 1693. To my knowledge, the 0216 isn't a buried code that will trigger the 1693 in the PCM....the 0216 can appear on it's own.....someone please correct if I'm wrong.

1693's are a pain in the EDIT because it hard to tell what is causing the code to appear. CTD you are right for the most part but there are many factors that can lead up to the 1693. Most of the time it is caused due to a code in the ECM. You get the code in the PCM because of course they are communicating with each other to keep everything in true harmony. You have to have the DRB scanner to check any codes in the ECM unlike the PCM which you can check with a local trip to autozone. Dodge might do this to help mechanics out. See you check for simples codes in the PCM and the 1693 alerts you to a more serious ( maybe ) problems elsewhere! Ahhhhh who knows.......I am just talking out my EDIT but I hope this might help. What do you think CTD?
