I ran out of fuel in my Cummins! I lost pressure heading down the road, figured I lost my pump again, made it 1 mile and she shut off. Dumped 5 gallons in, bled the lines and she fired right up.

So she is empty around 1/3 tank, maybe a hair lower. What should I be looking at? Sending Unit? Fuel Pickup?

I just had the same thing happen today to me. I was pulling a loaded trailer with about 15,000 lbs payload. Started down a hill, made a right turn, and started up the hill with about 15 lbs of fuel pressure and it was just like someone turned the switch off. Put 5 gal in and bled the injector lines and she is all better. I had almost a 1\4 of a tank on level ground and I have never worried about running out before until the light comes on, even though I normally try to run on the top half of the tank.
What has changed ?

sending unit in tank is bad, it happened to me, i thought i lost the vp44....guage read over 1/4
the senders are known to fail
