Driveline vibration
Driveline vibration
My truck has a high-speed vibration that shows up around
60 MPH. Annoying. Just had the diff gone through. New bearings & clutches in the limited slip. U-joints look OK, Carrier bearing doesn't move. Wondering what it could be???

It's not a wheel-balance thing. That would be a low-speed vibration. I'm getting a high-speed vibration like a bad U-joint. Here's my sig. Sorry.

double check u-joints. mine did the same thing and i missd the bad u-joint at frist check but sure enought . . . as it got worse the u-joint finnaly caught my eye. Whatever it is, if its fairly violent, fix it as soon as you can. I drove on mine for a week or two and a few months later when i was having my tranny suncoasted
they found a case cracked between the tranny at trans case (dry shaft inside so no obvious leak but still 150$$)

When i had a vibration all the u-joints were tight but when i took it down the road for about 30 miles i got out and checked them again and the one u-joint was really hot. I changed it out and it went away. Just another idea.
I removed drivelines that everything looked fine. after removal I found one u-joint bearing full of metal dust from disintegrated bearings. Bad u-joints have been the vibration problem many times. Replace u-joints and it will probably go away.
Everyone says that bearing needs to be pressed. How did you drive it off and on without damaging it?

To get the old one off, I put it in a vice and used a punch and hammer, hitting it all around until it came off. Then to put the new one on I used a piece of pipe the same size as the keeper and drove it on by hitting the pipe until i got it where i wanted it
